Questions
Is it free?
Yes, free and open source, with no sign-up and no watermark.
Is the old text really gone?
Yes. Paper deletes the original words from the file and writes the new ones in their place, so searching or copying finds only the new text.
Can I edit a scanned PDF?
Run OCR first so the page has real text, then edit it.
